Es apropiado que hablemos en este punto sobre los mecanismos que las células utilizan para controlar las enzimas. Se emplean cuatro métodos generales. Incluyen
- alosterismo
- modificación covalente
- acceso al sustrato
- control de la síntesis/descomposición de enzimas
La regulación de las enzimas mediante el control de su síntesis se aborda más adelante en el libro en la discusión relativa al control de la expresión génica.
