Nativo en praderas altas y de pasto corto, poco azulado puede crecer en una variedad de suelos, pero prefiere bien drenado a tierras altas. Es hermoso durante toda la temporada, con un follaje verdoso típicamente verdoso que se vuelve rojo y naranja en el otoño.
