Estos anillos se forman en respuesta a las condiciones ambientales, almacenando información sobre el clima y la ocurrencia histórica de incendios en una zona. Esencialmente, perforas un agujero en un árbol vivo y extraes una columna de sección delgada de la madera. Este se convierte en tu ejemplar de referencia, a medida que fechas cada anillo anual, rastreándose desde la fecha actual. Su espécimen de referencia puede ser utilizado para determinar el momento de los eventos en árboles muertos, potencialmente rastreando miles de años atrás.
Imagina que la muestra a continuación es de tu ejemplar de referencia. El núcleo de ejemplo muestra las características que puede ver en un núcleo de árbol y cómo interpretarlas.
¿Qué edad tiene este árbol? ¿En qué fechas ocurrieron los años lluviosos? ¿Qué periodos representan sequías? ¿Cuándo ocurrieron los incendios? Toma notas sobre los anillos anuales con la fecha y eventos notables.
Usando su ejemplar de referencia, feche los eventos en los siguientes árboles muertos de edad desconocida del mismo bosque. Será más fácil hacer esto cortando cada núcleo y alineándolo junto a la referencia. No hay texto en la parte inferior de esta página en el lado opuesto, ¡así que corta!
