Morfología de Gametofitos
Los gametofitos de Hornwort son exclusivamente taloides, a menudo con compartimentos de cianobacterias mutualistas del género Nostoc. Las células dentro del gametofito son monoplastídicas, conteniendo un cloroplasto grande en cada célula. En el exterior del talo, los poros simples permiten el intercambio de gases (sin celdas de protección, lo que significa que los poros están permanentemente abiertos).
Morfología de esporofitos
Los esporofitos de Hornwort están compuestos por un esporangio lineal que carece de seta. Crece a partir de un meristema basal, lo que significa que las células en el ápice son las más antiguas. Cuando ves que los esporangios maduran, esto se vuelve más obvio, ya que la punta se seca primero y se dehisa (se divide) para liberar las esporas. A diferencia del gametofito, el esporofito posee verdaderos estomas para el intercambio de gases.
