Hay mejores enfoques ecológicos —un enfoque de “esfuerzo constante”, por ejemplo, en lugar de la “cosecha constante” que aquí se examina, pero las presiones económicas, sociales y políticas les han impartido un uso extensivo.
Esperamos que este capítulo le haya demostrado que un examen insuficiente de las ecuaciones ecológicas aplicadas a gran escala puede generar desastres, que los equilibrios no deben considerarse aparte de su estabilidad, y que el manejo de los sistemas ecológicos reales requiere atención a la historia natural y a las condiciones sociales.
