El medio ambiente en la era de Internet: activistas, comunicación y paisaje digital es una colección interdisciplinaria que reúne investigaciones y respuestas de estudios de medios y comunicación, ciencias sociales, historia moderna y estudios folclóricos. Editado por Heike Graf, su enfoque se centra en los enfoques comunicativos que toman diferentes grupos a las cuestiones ecológicas, arrojando luz sobre cómo estos grupos cuentan sus historias distintivas del “medio ambiente”. Este libro se basa en estudios de casos de todo el mundo y se centra en activistas de radicalmente diferentes tipos: manifestantes contra las fábricas de celulosa en América del Sur, la resistencia a la minería en la región sámi de Suecia, las luchas de los pueblos indígenas desde el Ártico hasta la Amazonía, blogueros de jardinería en el norte de Europa, y ambientalistas neonazis en Alemania. Cada caso es examinado en relación a su multifacética cobertura mediática, mainstream y digital, profesional y amateur.
Las historias se cuentan dentro de un contexto; examinar el “qué” y el “cómo” de estas historias ambientales demuestra cómo los contextos determinan la comunicación, y cómo la comunicación genera y da forma a la conciencia. Estos temas nunca han sido más urgentes, este trabajo nunca más oportuno. El Medio Ambiente en la Era de Internet es una lectura esencial para todos los interesados en cómo los humanos se relacionan con su entorno en la era digital.
