Los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010) definen la salud sexual como bienestar general en relación con la sexualidad. No es simplemente la ausencia de enfermedades, sino el bienestar físico, emocional, mental y social ya que cada uno se relaciona con las relaciones sexuales.

| Sífilis | Boca, labios, vagina, pene, ano, recto | Los signos y síntomas ocurren por etapas. Los síntomas de la etapa primaria (primera) pueden no aparecer por muchos días. Estos pueden persistir durante 3 a 6 semanas antes de avanzar a la segunda etapa. Solo se listan los síntomas de la etapa primaria. |
