Marzano y Marzano (2003) categorizan a los estudiantes con problemas de atención como una categoría de estudiantes de alta necesidad. Los dos subgrupos de esta categoría son estudiantes hiperactivos y desatentos. Si bien los estudiantes hiperactivos tienen “dificultad con el control motor, tanto física como verbalmente”, los estudiantes desatentos tienen dificultad para mantenerse enfocados en las tareas (p. 10). Similar a los estudiantes agresivos, trabajar en contratos de gestión de la conducta con los estudiantes es útil. Adicionalmente, los maestros deben desarrollar estrategias para mejorar las habilidades de concentración de los estudiantes (Marzano & Marzano, 2003).
