    • 5.1: Lugares pequeños
      Jamaica Kincaid, A Small Place, publicado en 1988, ofrece un ensayo novelista sobre la historia y el presente de la isla caribeña de Antigua. Lo que más me parece pertinente del libro es la manera en que Kincaid, o el narrador del texto, navega por la relación entre Antigua y el mundo, entre isla y continente, entre “lugar pequeño” y lugar grande; o, más generalmente, entre el lugar como tal y los marcos integrales de la modernidad, posmodernidad y globalización.
    • 5.2: Espacio de escritura, Espacio habitable
      En el quinto libro de sus Historias, Herodoto describe la llegada a Esparta de una Aristágoras, tirano de Mileto, ahí para ganar apoyo a una revuelta de los griegos jónicos del control persa. Aristágoras entra en conversaciones con Cleómenes, uno de los reyes espartanos, armado con 'una tablilla de bronce en la que se grabó el camino alrededor de toda la tierra, y todo el mar y todos los ríos'. Con esta ayuda visual, Aristágoras señala la cadena de lugares a conquistar.
