    Como sabemos de capítulos anteriores, la ciencia es conocimiento representado como una colección de “teorías” derivadas utilizando el método científico. En este capítulo, examinaremos qué es una teoría, por qué necesitamos teorías en la investigación, cuáles son los bloques de construcción de una teoría, cómo evaluar teorías, cómo podemos aplicar teorías en la investigación, y también se presentan ejemplos ilustrativos de cinco teorías frecuentemente utilizadas en la investigación en ciencias sociales.
