    Se dice que la luz está circularmente polarizada cuando la elipse se reduce a una circunferencia. Esto ocurre si se dan las siguientes dos condiciones
    \[
    \begin{aligned}
    \left|E_{0 x}\right| &=\left|E_{0 y}\right| \\
    \delta_{y}-\delta_{x} &=\pm \frac{\pi}{2}
    \end{aligned}
    \]
    donde \(+\rightarrow\) dextro \(\mathrm{y}-\rightarrow\) levo. En otros términos,
    \[
    \mathbf{E}_{0}=e^{-i \delta_{y}}\left(\begin{array}{c}
    \left|E_{0 x}\right| e^{i\left(\delta_{y}-\delta_{x}\right)} \\
    \left|E_{0 y}\right|
    \end{array}\right)=e^{-i \delta_{y}}\left|E_{0 x}\right|\left(\begin{array}{c}
    \pm i \\
    1
    \end{array}\right) \notag
    \]
    Para este tipo de luz se tiene siempre que la amplitud es proporcional a un vector de componentes \(1 \mathrm{y} \pm i\); el orden y los signos darán el sentido.
