La escultura fue desenterrada en 1863 tras su descubrimiento bajo la dirección de Charles Champoiseau, el Vicecónsul francés en Turquía. Tenga en cuenta que la reconstrucción teórica de la Nike como trompetista mencionada en el video ha sido abandonada en gran parte; ahora se cree que el monumento fue parte de una fuente que posiblemente conmemora una victoria naval.
