Esto probablemente se hizo para el gobernante normando Roger II en 1133/34 en el taller real de Palermo, utilizando tela de Bizancio o Tebas, Samita, seda, oro, perlas, filigrana, zafiros, granates, vidrio y esmalte cloisonné. El guión de Kufic dice:
Este manto fue trabajado en el taller de ropa más magnífico y está conectado con el deseo y las esperanzas, días y noches felices sin cesar ni cambio, con autoridad, con honor y felicidad, garantías de confianza, cuidado reverente, protección, buen destino, libertad de daño, triunfo y sustento en la ciudad capital de Sicilia en el año 528 [o 1133/34 en el calendario gregoriano].
