Cuando Pablo Picasso, dejando de lado la pintura por un momento, estaba construyendo esta inmensa guitarra de chapa cuyos planos podían ser despachados a cualquier ignorante del universo que pudiera armarla así como a él, vi el estudio de Picasso, y este estudio, más increíble que el laboratorio de Fausto, este estudio que, según algunos, no contenía obras de arte, en el viejo sentido, estaba amueblado con el más nuevo de los objetos.. Algunos testigos, ya conmocionados por las cosas que vieron cubriendo las paredes, y que se negaron a llamar pinturas porque estaban hechas de hule, papel de envolver y periódico, dijeron, apuntando con el dedo altivo al objeto de los ingeniosos dolores de Picasso: “¿Qué es? ¿Descansa sobre un pedestal? ¿Se cuelga de una pared? ¿Qué es, pintura o escultura?” Picasso, vestido con el azul de los artesanos parisinos, respondió con su mejor voz andaluza: “¡No es nada, es el guitare!” ; ¡Y ahí estás! Los compartimentos estancos son demolidos. Nos entregan de la pintura y la escultura, que ya se han liberado de la tiranía idiota de los géneros. No es esto ni aquello. No es nada. ¡Es el guitare!
