Hasta este punto del libro, hemos derivado soluciones de respuesta de tiempo de sistemas LTI solo para funciones de entrada relativamente simples\(u(t)\). La integral de convolución nos permitirá derivar soluciones de respuesta de tiempo para cualquier función de entrada físicamente realista\(u(t)\), e incluso calcular soluciones de respuesta de tiempo si\(u(t)\) se da en forma numérica en lugar de en forma de ecuación. La transformación de convolución general y su inversa, la integral de convolución, se definen y describen en este capítulo, y la aplicación de la integral de convolución se ilustra específicamente para los sistemas de primer orden.
