Para determinar si un material es un metal o un aislante, y para calcular la magnitud de la corriente bajo polarización aplicada, necesitamos la densidad de estados (DOS), que como usted recuerda es una medida del número de estados en un conductor por unidad de energía. En esta parte, calcularemos el DOS para una variedad de diferentes conductores.
Para calcular la densidad de estados emplearemos dos supuestos: (i) modelaremos el conductor como una caja homogénea, y (ii) asumiremos condiciones de límite periódicas.
