    Hay muchas maneras de generar acción absorbente saturable. Se pueden usar absorbentes saturables reales, como semiconductores o tintes y medios láser de estado sólido. También se pueden explotar absorbedores artificiales saturables. Las dos técnicas de modelocking de absorbedor saturable artificial más destacadas se llaman Bloqueo de Modo de Lente Kerr-Lens (KLM) y Bloqueo de Modo de Pulso Aditivo (APM). APM a veces también se llama Bloqueo de Modo de Cavidad Acoplada (CCM).
