    Los reguladores se utilizan para crear un voltaje de CC estable y limpio para alimentar otros sistemas electrónicos. El voltaje del regulador no debe cambiar a medida que cambia su carga. Un regulador lineal puede basarse en un bucle de retroalimentación serie-paralelo, usando un amplificador operacional como controlador. El amplificador operacional compara una versión escalada del voltaje de carga con un voltaje de referencia. Cambiando ya sea la referencia o el factor de escalado, se puede obtener un rango de tensiones de carga. Debido a que los amplificadores operacionales suelen producir una corriente insuficiente para impulsar muchas cargas, se utiliza un transistor de paso de corriente para aumentar la capacidad de corriente de salida.
