Los grupos\(\mathbb Z\) y\({\mathbb Z}_n\text{,}\) que se encuentran entre los grupos más familiares y de fácil comprensión, son ambos ejemplos de lo que se denominan grupos cíclicos. En este capítulo estudiaremos las propiedades de los grupos cíclicos y subgrupos cíclicos, los cuales juegan un papel fundamental en la clasificación de todos los grupos abelianos.
