    Así como los grupos tienen subgrupos y los anillos tienen sutrae, los espacios vectoriales también tienen subestructuras. Dejar\(V\) ser un espacio vectorial sobre un campo\(F\text{,}\) y\(W\) un subconjunto de\(V\text{.}\) Entonces\(W\) es un subespacio de\(V\) si se cierra bajo suma vectorial y multiplicación escalar; es decir, si\(u, v \in W\) y\(\alpha \in F\text{,}\) siempre será el caso que \(u + v\)y también\(\alpha v\) están en\(W\text{.}\)

    Ejemplo\(20.6\)

    \(W\)Sea el subespacio de\({\mathbb R}^3\) definido por\(W = \{ (x_1, 2 x_1 + x_2, x_1 - x_2) : x_1, x_2 \in {\mathbb R} \}\text{.}\) Afirmamos que\(W\) es un subespacio de\({\mathbb R}^3\text{.}\) Desde

    Solución

    \ begin {alinear*}\ alpha (x_1, 2 x_1 + x_2, x_1 - x_2) & = (\ alpha x_1,\ alpha (2 x_1 + x_2),\ alpha (x_1 - x_2))\\ & = (\ alpha x_1, 2 (\ alpha x_1) +\ alpha x_2,\ alpha x_1 -\ alpha _2)\ text {,}\ end {align*}

    \(W\)se cierra bajo multiplicación escalar. Para mostrar que\(W\) se cierra bajo adición de vectores, let\(u = (x_1, 2 x_1 + x_2, x_1 - x_2)\) y\(v = (y_1, 2 y_1 + y_2, y_1 - y_2)\) ser vectores en\(W\text{.}\) Entonces

    \[ u + v = (x_1 + y_1, 2( x_1 + y_1) +( x_2 + y_2), (x_1 + y_1) - (x_2+ y_2))\text{.} \nonumber \]

    Ejemplo\(20.7\)

    Dejado\(W\) ser el subconjunto de polinomios de\(F[x]\) sin términos de poder extraño. Si\(p(x)\) y no\(q(x)\) tienen términos de poder extraño, entonces

    Solución

    tampoco lo hará\(p(x) + q(x)\text{.}\) También,\(\alpha p(x) \in W\) para\(\alpha \in F\) y\(p(x) \in W\text{.}\)

    \(V\)Sea cualquier espacio vectorial sobre un campo\(F\) y supongamos que\(v_1, v_2, \ldots, v_n\) son vectores en\(V\) y\(\alpha_1, \alpha_2, \ldots, \alpha_n\) son escalares en\(F\text{.}\) Cualquier vector\(w\)\(V\) de la forma

    \[ w = \sum_{i=1}^n \alpha_i v_i = \alpha_1 v_1 + \alpha_2 v_2 + \cdots + \alpha_n v_n \nonumber \]

    se llama una combinación lineal de los vectores\(v_1, v_2, \ldots, v_n\text{.}\) El conjunto de vectores que abarca\(v_1, v_2, \ldots, v_n\) es el conjunto de vectores obtenido de todas las combinaciones lineales posibles de\(v_1, v_2, \ldots, v_n\text{.}\) Si\(W\) es el conjunto de expansión de\(v_1, v_2, \ldots, v_n\text{,}\) entonces decimos que \(W\)es abarcado por\(v_1, v_2, \ldots, v_n\text{.}\)

    Proposición\(20.8\)

    Dejar\(S= \{v_1, v_2, \ldots, v_n \}\) ser vectores en un espacio vectorial\(V\text{.}\) Entonces el lapso de\(S\) es un subespacio de\(V\text{.}\)

    Prueba

    Let\(u\) and\(v\) be in\(S\text{.}\) Podemos escribir ambos vectores como combinaciones lineales de los\(v_i\)'s:

    \ begin {align*} u & =\ alpha_1 v_1 +\ alpha_2 v_2 +\ cdots +\ alpha_n v_n\\ v & =\ beta_1 v_1 +\ beta_2 v_2 +\ cdots +\ beta_n v_n\ texto {.} \ end {alinear*}

    Entonces

    \[ u + v =( \alpha_1 + \beta_1) v_1 + (\alpha_2+ \beta_2) v_2 + \cdots + (\alpha_n + \beta_n) v_n \nonumber \]

    es una combinación lineal de los\(v_i\) 's. para\(\alpha \in F\text{,}\)

    \[ \alpha u = (\alpha \alpha_1) v_1 + ( \alpha \alpha_2) v_2 + \cdots + (\alpha \alpha_n ) v_n \nonumber \]

    está en el lapso de\(S\text{.}\)
