    El típico texto introductorio de análisis real comienza con un análisis del sistema de números reales y lo utiliza para desarrollar la definición de un límite, que luego se utiliza como base para las definiciones encontradas a partir de entonces. Si bien este es ciertamente un enfoque razonable desde un punto de vista lógico, no es como evolucionó el tema, ni es necesariamente la mejor manera de introducir a los estudiantes a las definiciones y pruebas rigurosas pero altamente no intuitivas que se encuentran en el análisis.
