    En este Capítulo, estudiamos una clase particularmente importante de ecuaciones de segundo orden. Debido a sus múltiples aplicaciones en la ciencia y la ingeniería, las ecuaciones diferenciales de segundo orden han sido históricamente la clase de ecuaciones diferenciales más estudiadas. La investigación sobre la teoría de las ecuaciones diferenciales de segundo orden continúa hasta nuestros días.
