    El derecho tiene diferentes significados así como diferentes funciones. Los filósofos han considerado temas de justicia y derecho durante siglos, y han surgido varios enfoques diferentes, o escuelas de pensamiento jurídico. En este capítulo, veremos esos diferentes significados y enfoques y consideraremos cómo las dinámicas sociales y políticas interactúan con las ideas que animan las diversas escuelas de pensamiento jurídico. También veremos las fuentes típicas de “derecho positivo” en Estados Unidos y cómo algunas de esas fuentes tienen prioridad sobre otras, y expondremos algunas diferencias básicas entre el sistema legal estadounidense y otros sistemas legales.
