El emprendimiento no es diferente, ya que puede pensarse como un ecosistema propio, con nuevas empresas que se crean, maduran, necesitan adaptarse o extinguirse. Al igual que el ecosistema biológico, en el ecosistema emprendedor, el cambio ocurre y da lugar a oportunidades o presenta desafíos. Es importante considerar los diversos niveles del ecosistema a la hora de evaluar el entorno empresarial. Por ejemplo, los ecosistemas pueden analizarse a nivel macro como el ecosistema terrestre en biología o la economía nacional en el emprendimiento. Adicionalmente, los ecosistemas pueden ser analizados a más micro niveles como el ecosistema de la selva tropical en biología o el nivel firme en el emprendimiento.
