Tenemos 11 entidades, y tuvimos un problema en torno a los cargos por costos. Sospechaba que la forma en que se asignaban estos costos no era justa y se basaban en las impresiones de la gente más que en la realidad. Entonces hice mi propia investigación cuantitativa. Yo hice que todo el personal rastreara su tiempo en un reporte de Harvest. Pude regresar y demostrar que en el transcurso de estos meses, así es como la gente está pasando su tiempo. Fue fácil para la gente ver. Y eso aminoró la resistencia.
Otro ejemplo de investigación donde es increíblemente importante obtener esa perspectiva académica es cuando estamos tratando con reclamos de derechos y títulos. Tenemos que probar nuestro uso histórico de esa tierra. Tener esa persona de brazos extendidos que pueda entrar y hacer la investigación académica, mirar cuentas etnográficas, mapas, revistas y entrevistas a ancianos hace que todo sea más creíble. En ese caso, se trata de asentamientos significativos, por lo que eso hace que la investigación sea absolutamente necesaria.
