- Describir el proceso de desarrollo de un producto que satisfaga las necesidades del cliente.
Al igual que PowerSki, cada organización, ya sea que produzca bienes o proporcione servicios, ve el trabajo 1 como amueblar a los clientes con productos de calidad. El éxito de un negocio depende de su capacidad para identificar las necesidades insatisfechas de los consumidores y desarrollar productos que satisfagan esas necesidades a bajo costo (Ulrich & Eppinger, 2000). En otras palabras, el desarrollo efectivo de productos da como resultado bienes y servicios que se pueden vender con ganancias. Además, resulta en productos de alta calidad que no solo satisfacen las necesidades del consumidor sino que también se pueden desarrollar de manera oportuna y rentable. El logro de estos objetivos implica un esfuerzo colaborativo por parte de individuos de todas las áreas de una organización: administración de operaciones (incluyendo representantes de ingeniería, diseño y manufactura), marketing, contabilidad y finanzas. De hecho, las empresas asignan cada vez más representantes de diversas áreas funcionales que trabajan juntos como equipo de proyecto a lo largo de los procesos de desarrollo de productos. Este enfoque permite que individuos con antecedentes y experiencia variados brinden insumos a medida que se desarrolla el producto.
