En este módulo aprenderás formas en que las empresas utilizan la tecnología para convertir los datos en información y luego usar esa misma tecnología para administrar esa información. En la década de los 90 hablamos de los albores de la “era digital” donde los viejos procesos se convirtieron rápidamente en procesos digitales. Esa era digital de los años noventa y 2000 evolucionó hacia lo que ahora denominamos la “era de la información”. La tecnología ha progresado tan rápidamente que las empresas pueden capturar miles de millones de bytes de datos todos los días. Estos datos son analizados y convertidos en información y en consecuencia ahora nos consideramos vivir en la “era de la información”. La característica principal de esta era de la información es que las empresas exitosas son capaces de aprovechar la información para crear y mantener una ventaja competitiva sobre la competencia. De hecho, en el mundo actual casi todos los aspectos de las operaciones comerciales se ven afectados por la tecnología hasta cierto punto. Pero, antes de comenzar nuestra discusión sobre tecnología, información y negocios, obtengamos alguna perspectiva sobre la “era de la información” en el video que sigue.
