- Los metales de transición a menudo se asocian con compuestos de colores brillantes. Debido a su electronegatividad relativamente baja, los metales de transición se encuentran frecuentemente como iones cargados positivamente, o cationes. En solución, los iones metálicos no nadarían por sí mismos, sino que atraerían otras moléculas hacia ellos. Estas moléculas se unen a los iones metálicos, formando complejos de coordinación.
