La mayoría de los iones lantánidos son estables en los estados de oxidación 3+ pero Ce 4 + y Eu 2 + son iones estables y las solubilidades y la capacidad de adsorción en la extracción con disolvente son significativamente diferentes de las de otros lantánidos, lo que facilita la separación.
