Los siguientes son algunos puntos importantes a considerar al trabajar con productos de limpieza o químicos en el lugar de trabajo:
- Muchas sustancias son lo suficientemente inofensivas por sí mismas, pero cuando se combinan, liberan humos tóxicos. Por ejemplo, dos agentes de limpieza domésticos comunes, el amoníaco y la lejía, producirán gas cloro tóxico cuando se mezclen entre sí.
- No mezcle ningún producto químico que se encuentre en el sitio de trabajo a menos que esté absolutamente seguro de que la mezcla combinada no será dañina.
- A veces los cambios químicos son desencadenados por el calor o la radiación. Por ejemplo, muchos limpiadores de horno producen humos que son tóxicos cuando se calientan.
- Todos los productos químicos deben almacenarse en sus envases originales y los recipientes deben estar etiquetados y sellados.
- Si necesita transferir un producto de limpieza a un recipiente más pequeño para usarlo, asegúrese de que tenga la etiqueta apropiada para el lugar de trabajo.
- Siempre que exista el menor riesgo de ser salpicado por estas sustancias, use gafas de seguridad.
- Use guantes de goma si es probable que sus manos entren en contacto con un químico.
- Enjuaga y neutraliza cualquier derrame en tu ropa personal. Si el derrame es grande, se debe quitar la ropa afectada para evitar cualquier lesión.
- Los productos químicos corrosivos y las sustancias inflamables deben usarse solo en áreas bien ventiladas. Evite respirar los humos.
- Muchos limpiadores y algunos productos alimenticios vienen en latas de aerosol que usan presión para liberar su contenido. Estas latas no deben mantenerse cerca del calor ni exponerse a las llamas, ya que los contenedores son explosivos y el contenido residual suele ser altamente inflamable. Cuando el contenido esté terminado, las latas vacías deben reciclarse adecuadamente.
