    Un imán atrae metales ferrosos y algunas aleaciones. Los imanes pueden tomar tres formas:

    • natural
    • artificial
    • eléctrico

    Los imanes naturales (es decir, magnetita) son muy débiles. Los imanes artificiales están hechos de materiales magnéticos (como hierro, níquel y cobalto) y reciben una fuerte fuerza magnética durante la construcción. Estos son imanes permanentes y tienen algún uso limitado. Los electroimanes se pueden encender y apagar fácilmente y son de uso común porque no son permanentes. Se les llama imanes temporales.
