    Los capacitores (Figura\(\PageIndex{1}\)) son dispositivos utilizados para absorber y almacenar corriente eléctrica para evitar daños a los componentes. Estos componentes están hechos de placas de dos conductores con un material no conductor entre ellas. Los condensadores almacenarán energía si el circuito está roto y permanecerán cargados hasta que se restaure el circuito.

    Los condensadores son útiles para absorber corrientes parásitas y evitar la formación de arcos a través de los contactos de apertura. Los capacitores variables se llaman trimmers o sintonizadores y se utilizan únicamente en circuitos muy sensibles con bajo flujo de corriente.

    Los capacitores también se utilizan para desplazar la fase dentro de los motores eléctricos. Dependiendo de su aplicación, esto puede dar a los motores eléctricos un mayor par de arranque (Figura\(\PageIndex{2}\)), mayor eficiencia, o ambos.
