El Egipto “dinástico” —a veces denominado “faraónico ”— fue la época en que el país se unificó en gran medida bajo un solo gobernante, comenzando alrededor del 3100 a.C.E. El período anterior a este, que dura desde aproximadamente el 5000 a.C.E. hasta la unificación, es referido como predinástico por los estudiosos modernos.
