Este texto es una encuesta introductoria a los géneros y temas de las humanidades. El material se centra en la filosofía, la religión, el lenguaje y las artes. Como temas, se exploran las ideas de libertad, amor, felicidad, muerte, naturaleza y mito. Por lo general, un estudio de humanidades mira a los filósofos occidentales, tal vez algunas de las religiones del mundo, una historia de la música occidental y las artes visuales occidentales.
