    El texto introduce a los estudiantes a la biología celular molecular en el contexto de un proyecto de investigación semestral en genómica funcional. En el proyecto Pathways over Time, los estudiantes estudian la conservación evolutiva de genes en la síntesis de metionina. Cada capítulo incluye tanto material de base teórico como procedimientos experimentales detallados. Los capítulos se pueden utilizar solos o en combinación, dependiendo del curso.
