Un antimicrobiano es un agente que mata microorganismos o detiene su crecimiento. Los medicamentos antimicrobianos pueden agruparse según los microorganismos contra los que actúan principalmente. Por ejemplo, se usan antibióticos contra bacterias y antifúngicos se usan contra hongos
