Rocas Metamórficas
• Las rocas metamórficas se forman “cambiando” rocas ígneas, sedimentarias u otras rocas metamórficas preexistentes.
* Los procesos metamórficos implican cambios causados por la exposición al calor, la presión y los fluidos químicamente activos.
• Las fuerzas impulsoras aumentan el calor y la presión a medida que las rocas se entierran profundamente en la tierra en asociación con períodos de construcción de montañas.
• Normalmente desarrollan una tela o textura que la diferencia de la roca original de la que se formó (llamada protolito).
• Se encuentra comúnmente en antiguas rocas corticales expuestas en cadenas montañosas y en el núcleo de masas continentales.
Ejemplos: cuarcita, pizarra, mármol, gneis, esquisto y serpentinita (la Roca del Estado de California)
