Este texto introduce conceptos elementales de programación que incluyen tipos de variables, estructuras de datos y control de flujo. Después de una introducción al álgebra lineal y la probabilidad, abarca métodos numéricos relevantes para la ingeniería mecánica, incluyendo aproximación (interpolación, mínimos cuadrados y regresión estadística), integración, solución de ecuaciones lineales y no lineales, ecuaciones diferenciales ordinarias y deterministas y enfoques probabilísticos. Se extraen ejemplos de disciplinas de ingeniería mecánica, en particular de robótica, dinámica y análisis estructural. Las asignaciones requieren programación de MATLAB.
