    Un fluido ideal es un fluido que es incompresible y sin resistencia interna al flujo (viscosidad cero). Además, las partículas de fluido ideales no experimentan rotación alrededor de su centro de masa (irrotacional). Un fluido ideal puede fluir en un patrón circular, pero las partículas de fluido individuales son irrotacionales. Los fluidos reales exhiben todas estas propiedades hasta cierto punto, pero a menudo modelar los fluidos como ideales para aproximar el comportamiento de los fluidos reales. Cuando lo hacemos, uno debe ser extremadamente cauteloso al aplicar los resultados asociados con fluidos ideales a fluidos no ideales.
