    El segundo momento de inercia de cualquier cuerpo se puede escribir en la forma\(mk^2\). Así, para la varilla, el disco (alrededor de un eje perpendicular a su plano), el triángulo y el disco (alrededor de un diámetro),\( k\) tiene los valores

    • \(\dfrac{l}{\sqrt{3}} = 0.866l\),
    • \(\dfrac{a}{\sqrt{2}} = 0.707a\),
    • \(\dfrac{a}{\sqrt{6}} = 0.408a\), y
    • \(\dfrac{a}{2} = 0.500a\)

    respectivamente.

    \(k\)se llama el radio de giro. Si tuvieras que concentrar toda la masa de un cuerpo en su radio de giro, su momento de inercia seguiría siendo el mismo.
