Las rocas sedimentarias se forman por la deposición y posterior cementación de ese material en la superficie de la Tierra y dentro de cuerpos de agua. La sedimentación es el nombre colectivo de los procesos que hacen que las partículas minerales y/u orgánicas (detritus) se asienten en su lugar.
