- Un planeta es un gran cuerpo celeste esférico que se mueve en una órbita elíptica alrededor de una estrella. Un sistema planetario es un conjunto de objetos celestes gravitacionalmente ligados en órbita alrededor de una estrella o sistema estelar. Los planetas con lunas orbitantes son sistemas planetarios. El Sistema Solar consta de cuatro planetas rocosos internos, cuatro planetas gaseosos externos y cinturones orbitales de asteroides, cometas, planetesimales y otros objetos bajo la influencia de la gravitación del Sol.
