El Sistema Solar
El Sistema Solar es el sistema que contiene el Sol y los cuerpos retenidos en su campo gravitacional, incluyendo los planetas (Mercurio, Venus, Tierra, Marte, Júpiter, Saturno, Urano, Neptuno), lunas planetarias, los asteroides, cometas y otros cuerpos y materia interestelares (Figura 1.55).
La mayoría de los planetas y sistemas planetarios (planetas con lunas orbitantes) orbitan al Sol en el plano eclíptico, una llanura imaginaria que contiene la órbita de la Tierra y de otros planetas alrededor del Sol.
