Márgenes continentales
Los márgenes continentales fronterizos son regiones geográficas submarinas ubicadas entre la costa y el océano profundo. Son el borde sumergido de los continentes. Los márgenes continentales incluyen subregiones y características geográficas submarinas:
• plataforma continental
• talud continental
• elevación continental • cañones submarinos
El ancho de los márgenes continentales varía: “pasivo márgenes” tienden a ser más anchos (como la costa este) en comparación con los "márgenes activos” que tienden a ser más estrechos (como la costa oeste).
Los márgenes continentales están influenciados por “procesos continentales”, incluyendo elevación tectónica y hundimiento, erosión y deposición.
