    Atmósferas en Otros Planetas

    Los procesos que afectan a la atmósfera de la Tierra también se pueden ver en otros planetas. Por ejemplo, Júpiter, un planeta aproximadamente 318 veces más masivo que la Tierra, tiene zonas y bandas de circulación atmosférica similares (Figura 8.47). En Júpiter, las zonas brillantes son regiones de cimas nubosas ascendentes, y las zonas oscuras son regiones de aire que se hunde. Los puntos brillantes en Júpiter son ciclones masivos (¡algunos son más grandes que el planeta Tierra!). La atmósfera superior de Júpiter está compuesta por hidrógeno, helio y tiene nubes compuestas por cristales de hielo de amoníaco (NH 3).
