Periodos: ¡Regresamos!
El periodo parece bastante sencillo. Después de todo, para la mayoría de nosotros, esta fue la primera puntuación que aprendimos cuando estábamos aprendiendo a leer. Ver correr a Jane. Para nuestro yo de primer grado, eso significaba, Ver a Jane correr, parar, tomar un descanso, seguir adelante. Puedes hacer esto.
Los periodos son sin duda una puntuación importante porque son lo que más a menudo usamos para separar pensamientos completos o cláusulas independientes. Los periodos son como terminamos nuestras oraciones la mayor parte del tiempo.
No obstante, los periodos sí cumplen otra función importante en el mundo de la puntuación: Se debe utilizar un punto con abreviaturas.

Entonces, por supuesto, está la pregunta sobre cuántos espacios deben venir después de un periodo. Si aprendiste a escribir en esas cosas llamadas máquinas de escribir, aprendiste a duplicar el espacio después de todos los periodos al final de las oraciones. Sin embargo, ya no siempre es así. Generalmente, solo tenemos espacio único después de todos los períodos, aunque debe consultar la guía de estilo que está utilizando. El estilo APA ahora requiere un solo espacio después de un periodo al final de una oración, luego de requerir un doble espacio en la sexta edición.
La lección aquí es clara. Las “reglas” cambian todo el tiempo y dependen de tu guía de estilo. Es importante estar al día.
