La mayoría de las estructuras de acero o aluminio están hechas de tubos o placas soldadas. Los aviones, barcos y automóviles se ensamblan a partir de placas de metal clavadas mediante remaches o soldadura por puntos. Las estructuras chapadas pueden fallar al producir fractura o pandeo. Este capítulo trata de una breve introducción al análisis del pandeo de las placas.
