En cursos anteriores de matemáticas, sin duda te has topado con los infames “problemas de palabras”. Desafortunadamente, estos problemas rara vez se asemejan al tipo de problemas que realmente encontramos en la vida cotidiana. En los libros de matemáticas, generalmente se le dice exactamente qué fórmula o procedimiento usar, y se le da exactamente la información que necesita para responder a la pregunta. En la vida real, la resolución de problemas requiere identificar una fórmula o procedimiento apropiado, y determinar qué información necesitará (y no necesitará) para responder a la pregunta.
En este capítulo, revisaremos varias ideas algebraicas básicas pero poderosas: porcentajes, tasas y proporciones. Luego nos centraremos en el proceso de resolución de problemas y exploraremos cómo usar estas ideas para resolver problemas donde no tenemos la información perfecta.
