Sin embargo, los decimales tienen una diferenciación distinta con fracciones en que los decimales se basan en 10. En eso, una posición decimal a la derecha del número entero indica décimas, dos decimales a la derecha del número entero indica centésimas, tres decimales a la derecha del número entero indica milésimas, etc.

0.1 = décimas lugar
1.01 = centésimas de lugar
0.001 = milésimas de lugar
1.01 = lugar de diez milésimas
Los decimales se pueden escribir fácilmente como fracciones usando el número a la derecha del punto decimal como numerador y luego usando un 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000, etc. como denominador. Determinar qué número “base diez” usar como denominador viene determinado por el número de dígitos que hay a la derecha del punto decimal.

Los dígitos a la izquierda del decimal indican un número entero. Siempre que hay un número entero con una fracción decimal la expresión se pronuncia usando “y”.
Ejemplo:
12.3 = Doce y tres décimas =\(12 \dfrac{3}{10}\)
100.07 = Ciento siete centésimas =\(100 \dfrac{7}{100}\)
3,005.023 = Tres mil cinco y veintitrés milésimas =\(3,005 \dfrac{23}{1,000}\)
