Abarca la mecánica clásica y una breve introducción a la termodinámica. La presentación y el enfoque son similares a “Los principios y práctica de la física” de Mazur, en que las leyes de conservación se introducen ante las fuerzas, y los sistemas unidimensionales se cubren a fondo antes de pasar a dos dimensiones. Aunque el curso es “basado en cálculo”, el libro ha sido escrito con el entendimiento de que muchos estudiantes pueden estar tomando cálculo simultáneamente como requisito previo, por lo que el uso del cálculo es relativamente escaso.
